7 September 2009 Alum Initiates Free Art Shows

Ryan Hewson 03 recently helped initiate Red², a temporary art and architecture exhibit, located in an unused building in Spring Green, Wis. The project was developed to both fulfill a need for studio space by students, faculty and alumni of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and to help stimulate the community.

The space has played host to two free shows this summer Refuge which ran in July, and traced the development of Taliesins unique shelter program by featuring photos, models, material samples and personal testimony; and Conjure, which featured works and documentation from artists associated with Taliesin.

The third show was titled Marrow. According to promotional materials, The final show seeks to explore, through collation and collage, the evolving identity of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. It will feature architecture and design work of current students and the architects that live and work at both Taliesin estates.

Hewson earned a B.A., cum laude, in architectural studies from Hobart College. He minored in art history and participated in the semester in Denmark program. Hewson recently graduated from the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, and a model and photos of a shelter he designed and built while there are included in an exhibit titled, Learning By Doing at the Guggenheims Sackler Center for Arts Education.
