29 May 2009 Hobart rowing claims Crew, Coaching Staff of the Year Awards

The Hobart rowing team earned the 2008-09 Liberty League Crew of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year Awards the conference office announced today. The Statesmen have claimed all six crew and coaching staff of the year awards the league has presented.

Fourth-year Head Coach Mike Alton led the Statesmen to their fourth consecutive conference championship. Hobarts varsity eight was the only Liberty League crew to reach the grand final at the state championships, finishing third overall. Alton also oversaw a second varsity eight that won the state championship. He is assisted by Brian DeDominici and Ford Weiskittel.

Hobarts varsity eight won the Liberty League Championship at the State Championships. When the league championships were cancelled due to inclement weather, the State Championships results decided the conference standings as well. The Statesmen won a bronze medal at the states to secure the Liberty League trophy would remain in Geneva. Hobarts varsity eight was named the conferences Boat of the Week three times this season.

The varsity eight was powered by Reynaldo Kelly, Max Swagler, Andrew Cobb, Ben Ramsey, David Roberts, Jack Trimble, Matt Scanlon, Andrew ODonnell, and David Grossman.
