Hobart Launch Coming
22 April 2009 Hobart Launch Coming
Join fellow alumni for this years Hobart Launch as members of the Hobart Class of 2009 are welcomed into the Alumni Association at the Bozzuto Boathouse on Friday, May 15, 2009.
The Launch, initiated in 2004, is an event to officially welcome soon-to-be Hobart graduates into the Alumni Association. Each member of the class is given a replica of the paddle used by the legendary Seneca Indian warrior Agayentah. The paddle, this year engraved with the College seal and Class of 2009, is meant to inspire memories of Hobart, its great heritage, and the promise of a reciprocal lifelong bond among alumni.
This years speaker is Bryan Riehl 96, senior vice president of sales, SunGard Financial Systems. Riehl graduated from Hobart College with a degree in American Studies.
A Baltimore native, Riehl began playing lacrosse at a young age and served as captain of the Hobart Lacrosse team his senior season. His coaches and teammates describe him as one of the toughest, most intensive players to ever wear the Hobart uniform. For his exemplary leadership and integrity, Riehl received the Kent W. Marbury 62 Memorial Award and has been described as a terrific friend and citizen and all-around Statesman.
In his position with SunGard Financial Systems, he is responsible for sales in both North America and Europe and is one of the companys top performers. He lives in Manchester, Mass. with his wife, William Smith alumna Sarah Daly Riehl 97, and their two sons, Wyatt (age five) and Cole (age two). Still enthusiastic about athletics, he says, he every day wishes he were back in the Hobart locker room.
Light refreshments will be served at the event. Alumni House kindly asks that all alumni be assembled at the Boathouse dock no later than 4:15 p.m., as seniors will walk down the path to the dock at 4:30 p.m. Alums can RSVP by May 12, 2009.
