1 April 2009 Fitzgerald named RACA Female Athlete of the Week

William Smith College junior Molly Fitzgerald was recently named the Rochester Area College Athletics (RACA) Female Athlete of the Week, after leading the Heron lacrosse team to three wins last week. She was also tabbed the Liberty Leagues Co-Offensive Performer of the Week for her efforts.

Fitzgerald scored 14 goals as the Herons defeated St. John Fisher, Rensselaer, and Vassar in a span of five days. She scored three goals, including the game winner, on March 24 as William Smith edged the Cardinals 9-7. Fitzgerald went on to net six goals in Fridays 17-10 victory over the Red Hawks, and added five more tallies the next day in the Herons 19-10 win over the Brewers. She leads the team with 24 goals and 27 points, and paces the Liberty League in goals per game (4.80) and points per game (5.40).

William Smith is ranked 18th in the latest Intercollegiate Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, and carries a 5-0 overall record into tomorrows game at 14th-ranked Cortland. The Herons will take on the Red Dragons (2-4) at 4 p.m. Fans unable to make it to the game can listen live on WHWS-FM (105.7).
