27 March 2009 Dahouda Delves into Memory

Kanat Dahouda, associate professor of French and Francophone studies, may be on leave this academic year but hes keeping busy, having recently seen the release of a book he co-edited under the following title: Mmoires et Identits dans les Littratures Francophones.

Edited with Slom Gbanou of Calgary University in Canada, Dahoudas book is published in Paris by LHarmattan, the most important French publishing house in the field of Caribbean/African Francophone studies.

Mmoires et identits dans les littratures francophones is designed to enhance readers understanding of the diverse cultures and traditions of the Francophone world, while shining a light on ideological conflicts and common literary themes within this field. The book deals with both memory and identity crisis in colonial and postcolonial contexts, and explores ways in which Francophone subjects respond to this crisis in their attempts to reinvent a new sense of identity.

Dahouda received his Ph. D. from Laval University in Quebec, Canada, where he specialized in Francophone Comparative Literatures. He has been a faculty member at HWS since 2001.
