16 January 2009 HWS Board Meeting Jan. 22-24

Members of the HWS Board of Trustees will arrive on campusthis Thursday for the regular Wintersession, one of three held on campus each year. In addition to itsusual committee meetings, on Friday afternoon the Boardwill convene a visioningexercise so that trustees, faculty, students and staffcan work together to share ideas on topics of critical importance to the Colleges for the years ahead. As a community, the Collegeshave periodically paused to take stock of where we are, where we want to go, and what challenges we have ahead. The Board sees this as an opportune time to begin that process.

These conversations will begin to identify points of alignment aboutthe Collegesfuture that canserve as input to a comprehensive strategic planning process that willcommence next year. That planning process will have opportunities for full and deep participation by all members of the HWS community.

President Gearan will report the findings of this workshop to the broader campus community in the Presidents Board readout session at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in Albright Auditorium as well as at the next Faculty Meeting held on Monday, Feb. 9. Information will also be posted on the Colleges Web site.

Faculty, staff and students asked to participate in this workshop were selected based on the Collegesgovernance structure, service on committees, and through the recommendations of senior staff. All faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to participate in next years strategic planning process.
