This weekend's wrap-up is highlighted by the Herons hosting the Liberty League basketball tournament, the Statesmen's home lacrosse opener, and also features ways to explore places to live next school year, movies, concerts and a battle of the bands.
Friday, Feb. 29
Blackwell Scholars Days For incoming first-year students in the Elizabeth Blackwell Scholarship program, will feature events and activities across the HWS campus.
Masquerade Ball The annual Masquerade Ball begins with dinner at 6 p.m. at Club 86 in Geneva. Student tickets are $12 each or $20 per couple; $15 per person for the public; shuttles will run from the Medbery parking lot.
Shabbat Celebration HWS Hillel will celebrate Shabbat beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Abbe Center for Jewish Life.
William Smith Basketball vs. Rensselaer at 8 p.m., in the second semi-final game of the Liberty League tournament.
Saturday, March 1
Trustee Scholars Recognition Day Today is Trustee Scholars Recognition Day, with events scheduled across campus.
Paint the Campus Purple Today will be Paint the Campus Purple Day, to raise awareness of the upcoming Relay for Life. Those who wear purple will be entered into a special free raffle at the Battle of the Bands, from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Barn.
Hobart Lacrosse The Statesmen challenge Hartford at 1 p.m. on Boswell Field, to open another season at home.
Open House at Sub Free House The residents of the Substance Free House, at 775 S. Main St., invite the campus community to come to an open house from 2 to 4 p.m.; this is an opportunity for students interested in applying to live there for the 2008-09 academic year to see the building and meet the house managers. Milk, hot cocoa and cookies will be served.
Liberty League Basketball Championship Teams playing will be determined by the semifinals on Friday; final game at 3 p.m.
Tsotsi Tsotsi, a 2005 Academy Award-winning film set in Johannesburg, South Africa, will be shown starting at 7 p.m. at the Intercultural Affairs Center.
Battle of the Bands The Office of Student Activities and Colleges Against Cancer will co-sponsor a Battle of the Bands from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Barn. Each $5 admission includes pizza and refreshments, drawing and prizes.
Sunday, March 2
Quaker Meeting For worship will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Demarest 212, The Fisher Center; all are welcome.
Debate team The HWS Debate Team will meet at 1 p.m. Sundays in Stern 201.
SSO concert Violinist Tai Murray and conductor James Judd will be featured at the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra concert, presented by Geneva Concerts, at 3 p.m. at the Smith Opera House. The pre-concert talk starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 to college students with ID, and free to younger students, and will be available at the door.
All-Finnish concert Several students from the Colleges will join the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble for all-Finnish concert, starting at 3 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church in Geneva. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors and non-HWS students, and $5 for HWS students with ID, and may be purchased at the door.
Roman Catholic Mass Will be celebrated at 4 p.m. at St. John's Chapel; all are welcome.
Simple Eucharist A simple Eucharist in the Episcopal tradition will begin at 5:30 p.m. at St. John's Chapel; all are welcome.
