23 February 2008 National slam poetry champion coming TONIGHT

Roger Bonair-Agard, twice a national slam poetry champion who has appeared three times on HBO's Def Poetry, will perform at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Sanford Room.

He is a founder and the artistic director of The Louder ARTS Collective, a poetry non-profit organization in New York City, and the poet-in residence at VisionIntoArt, a diverse, multi-disciplinary collective that embraces the role of artist as public intellectual and political commentator.

His book, Tarnish and Masquerade, was published last year by Cypher Books, and includes a CD of performances of the poems in it. His one-man show, Masquerade, dealing with masculinity, memory and the experience of immigration, has played all over the country, most recently, off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre.

Check him out here. His visit is sponsored by the Fisher Center, the Africana Studies program, the Office of the Provost and Writers Reading.
