Feisal Khan, assistant professor of economics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will participate in an all-day conference on the water problem in Pakistan on Thursday, Nov. 20. The talk was featured in The Daily Times newspaper of Pakistan.
According to the newspaper, Khan will be part of a panel discussion of the water crisis in Pakistans countryside and will read a paper on water, governance and corruption in Pakistan.
Khan joined the HWS faculty in 2000 after earning his B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from Southern California.

Major conference on Pakistans water problem this month

WASHINGTON: The Woodrow Wilson Centre will host an all-day conference on the water problem in Pakistan on 20 November, featuring American and Pakistani experts. Arranged and organised by Robert Hathaway, director of the Centres Asia Programme, the conference will open with an address by Simi Sadaf Kamal, chairperson, Hisaar Foundation, Pakistan, on the countrys water challenges. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the water crisis in Pakistans countryside, featuring Feisal Khan, assistant professor, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, New York, who will read a paper on water, governance and corruption in Pakistan; Sarah J Halvorson, associate professor of geography, University of Montana, who will make a presentation on intersections of water, health, and gender in rural Pakistan; and Adrien Couton, water portfolio manager, Acumen Fund, New York, who will speak on tackling Pakistans water crisis through an entrepreneurial approach.
The luncheon session will be devoted to a presentation by Pakistani economist Kaiser Bengali, national coordinator, Benazir Income Support Programme. He will speak on water management under constraints and the need for a paradigm shift. The concluding session will be devoted to the water crisis in Pakistans cities and will hear presentations from James L Wescoat, Aga Khan Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, on water scarcity, shortages and conservation in Pakistan; Anita Chaudhry, assistant professor of economics, California State University, on securing sustainable access to safe drinking water in Lahore; and Samia Altaf, Pakistan Scholar, Woodrow Wilson Centre on the public health aspects of Pakistans water crisis.
