14 November 2008 Step into Hip~NotiQLand

Hip~NotiQs Step and Dance team is inviting the HWS and Geneva communities to and Step into Hip~NotiQLand. The team will host its annual showcase at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Geneva Middle School.

This years showcase thematically draws on Alice in Wonderland, but with a 2008 twist. Featuring a combination of reggae, hip-hop, jumps, lifts and an array of other moves, the performances will follow the storyline of Alice in Wonderland. To help bring Alice and her thoughts alive, Hip~NotiQs will employ a series of recorded sound clips and art, introducing scenes like Chasing the White Rabbit, Mad Tea Party, Queen of Hearts, Walrus and Dodo, and Caterpillar.

Unlike past shows, this years show will follow a storyline and provide a source of entertainment, says dance team captain Shante Rogers 09. With homemade costumes and Hip~NotiQ portrayals of a diverse representation of Alice, the audience will definitely get a kick out of our performance. She continues, adding that,I can confidently say that people will leave our show satisfied and wanting to go rent Alice in Wonderland on DVD the next day.

Tickets cost $5 for students and $10 for non-students, and proceeds will go to a charity of Hip~NotiQs choice for the campus and wider Geneva community.

Shuttles will run from Medbery parking lot starting from 6:15 7 p.m. After the comical and enjoyable performance, HWS students are invited and encouraged to head to The Barn and dance the night away at an after-party in collaboration with LAO.

Dance is a way or release, discipline and relaxation here on campus, says Rogers. Some find dance as a way of life, and others use dance as a way to stay active and learn different types of movement in their bodies.
