The William Smith golf team finished seventh in the William Smith Invitationals 11-team field. Sophomore Lauren Carlson was the top Heron, tying for 20th place.
Allegheny won the tournament with a team score of 639, 23 strokes better than second place Vassar. The Gators Hannah Schonau-Taylor took home medalist honors, carding consecutive 75s at the par 72 Clifton Springs Country Club. The Brewers Alexandra Bello was the runner-up, matching Schonau-Taylors 75 on Saturday before carding a 78 this afternoon.
Carlson carded an 86 in the first round, followed by an 87, for a career-best 36-hole score of 173. Seniors Lauren Zeitler and Nickie Calandra were the next William Smith golfers in the standings, registering a 187 (95-92) and 188 (97-91), respectively.
The Herons are back on the links on Sept. 27, when they compete in the Wellesley Invitational.
