Scandling Center Celebrates Opening
1 September 2008 Scandling Center Celebrates Opening
Today, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m., the new Scandling Campus Center will open its doors for its official Grand Opening. President Mark D. Gearan will say a few words in front of Scandling at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
From 1:30-3 p.m., there will be guided tours of the building and light snacks shortly after the presidents speech. During the tours, HWS community members will be able to walk through the 17,625 square feet of informal and formal spaces added to the former Scandling Center.
The new spaces include a student activities commons, game room, lounge areas, marketplace caf, outdoor terrace and the Vandervort Room that can accommodate up to 350 people. The renovations have been designed by Pamela Lucas Rew 81 of KSS Architects, Princeton, N.J.
At the groundbreaking in April 2007, Gearan reminded the audience that a groundbreaking represents many things and noted that Bill Scandling truly led a life of consequence, explaining that, Today we celebrate Bill in a special way. We are profoundly grateful for the transformation he had on this campus.
