What happens when you release a magazine, have a student photo exhibition and run a photo contest all in the same night? a real success answers Center for Global Education (CGE) Program Coordinator Doug Reilly. The event was so crowded. Around 75 students showed up, which was stunning for us. The Aleph got oohs and aahs. The contest slideshows had them captivated. It was really cool. At the event, the winners of the 2007-2008 Photo Contest were announced: Best In Show: Sunrise Worship at the Golden Temple in Punjab, India, by Katy Goodrich 08 (India Program) Documentary Category: 1st Prize: Family Who Have Lived Their Entire Lives on Floating Reed Island in Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, by Courtney Apple 08 (Ecuador/Peru Program) 2nd Prize: Riot Police Taking a Break in Lima, Peru, by Alysa Austin 08 (Ecuador/Peru Program) Landscape/Architecture: 1st Prize: Church In Puebla, Mexico, Welcomes the Virgin Mary with Flags by Emily Mills 09 (Non-HWS programMexico) 2nd Prize: Abandoned Stone House in Connemara, Ireland, by Leah Dittrick 09 (Maastricht, The Netherlands program) Portrait/Artistic: 1st Prize: Portrait of a Girl in Sapa, Vietnam, by Jenna Berman 08 (Vietnam Program) 2nd Prize: Natural Geothermal Mud Pool in Action by Chi-Kong Poon 09 (New Zealand Program) Congratulations to all of the winners, all photographers who entered and all students published in this years issue of The Aleph.
