19 November 2007 Perkins research quoted by medical publisher
Research by Professor of Sociology H. Wesley Perkins into Canadian college students' drinking and other addictive behaviors was featured in a Sunday, Nov. 3 article on NewsRx, which calls itself the world's largest source of health news.
The story described Perkins' study of students at 11 colleges and universities across Canada in 2003-2004, and the perception that students are drinking more than they really are.
Perkins, a member of the HWS faculty since 1978, holds a bachelors degree from Purdue as well as two masters and a doctorate from Yale. He popularized the Social Norms theory with work beginning more than two decades ago, and in collaboration with Professor of Chemistry David Craig, has received numerous awards for its applications to preventing alcohol abuse and other risk behaviors.
