15 November 2007 Alumna Moore describes A Career in Law

Karin Moore 89, an attorney in the Washington office of OMelveny & Myers, will talk with students about A Career in Law, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 in Trinity 305.

Her visit is part of the Career Services Offices Professionals in Residence Program.

After talking about her career path and experience with various organizations, she will discuss how students can make themselves more competitive for law schools and obtain internship experience.

Students can visit Career Services to set up one-on-one appointments to meet with her the next day, to receive career coaching and feedback on their resumes.

Moore is a member of the firms Adversarial Department, and Antitrust/Competition and Global Enforcement and Criminal Defense Practices. She has focused on antitrust litigation, particularly federal and state cartel class actions. She has also defended a number of significant clients in criminal investigations brought by the Department of Justice.

She also serves as a guardian ad litem in child neglect cases in D.C. Superior Court, and has recently successfully represented a pro bono client with a habeas petition in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

She was formerly an attorney with the Federal Trade Commissions Bureau of Competition, providing analysis of legal and factual issues on a wide range of merger and non-merger enforcement actions. Before that, she was a staff attorney in the Bureaus Anticompetitive Practices Division for five years, and co-led the FTCs investigation of minimum advertised pricing policies in the prerecorded music industry.

An economics major while at HWS, she was a member of Little Theatre and spent a term in Washington, D.C. She earned her law degree from George Mason University in 1995 and is a member of the William Smith Alumnae Council, and mentors pre-law and public policy students.
