9 May 2007 Senior Brunch highlights William Smith achievement

The abundant sunshine made the porch of Comstock Dining Hall a perfect setting for the start of the annual celebration of the William Smith Senior Brunch, held Tuesday morning. Members of the Class of 2007 later filled the dining room to hear an address by Susan F. Cushman 98, a recent addition to the Colleges biology faculty.

Theres a big world out there with many potential paths to take, she said. William Smith has prepared you well for this. Cushman, who holds a doctorate from the University of Maryland, reflected on the importance of the friendships she made during her undergraduate career, relationships she praised as rich with a common experience of William Smith history.

Jane Erickson 07 gave the student address. If theres one word to sum up our careers at William Smith, its purpose, said the Fulbright award recipient. The Colleges have instilled this within us, to see ourselves as part of this larger world, as women of consequence. It is time to give back from the things we have learned.

During the event, several awards were given to distinguished members of the graduating class. These included the William Smith Congress Award, given to Erickson; the Betsy Mitchell 65 award, given to Kyra Tobin 07; the Elizabeth Eaton White 33 Award, given to Kate Ustach 07; the Elizabeth Herendeen ODell 22 Award, given to Stephanie Feinman 07 and the Leadership Award, given to Ustach.
