28 June 2006 Magazines honor Jane Jacobs

The current issue of Preservation, the magazine of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, features a tribute to Jane Jacobs by Dwight Young.

Jacobs frequently hosted students in the HWS Two Cities: New York and Toronto course, taught by James Spates of the sociology department and Pat McGuire of the economics department. Her best-known book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, published in 1961, was required reading for the course.

In April 2004, she was the first recipient of the Colleges Presidents Medal, presented by President Mark D. Gearan and three members of the HWS board of trustees: Tom Bozzuto 68, Todd Patterson 72, P06 and Tom Poole 69, P 91.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is the only private, non-profit organization chartered by Congress to encourage public participation in the preservation of sites, buildings, and objects significant in American History.
