NPR's edition of Fresh Air with Terry Gross for Feb. 5 addressed how Vermont's legislature became the first in the U.S. to legalize civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. David Moats was also a guest on the show, to talk about his book Civil Wars. Moat is the editorial page editor for the Rutland Herald in Vermont, and won a Pulitzer Prize for his editorials in support of legalizing civil unions in Vermont. He is also the father of William Smith senior Nina Moats.
