12 November 2003 Zhou Presents on Chinese Revolutions

Jinghao Zhou, assistant professor of Asian languages and cultures, delivered his paper Five Revolutions and Chinese Womens Liberation at the New York Conference on Asian Studies 2003 annual meeting. Zhou in his paper argues that the four revolutionsthe Revolution of 1911, the May Fourth Movement of 1919, the first communist revolution of 1949, and the second communist revolution of 1980 (the Reform Movement)constituted a magnificent history of China in the twentieth century and gave more or less impetus to womens liberation, but the limitations of each revolution are evident. Therefore, China needs another revolutionremaking Chinas public philosophy, a peaceful revolution, to continue improving Chinese womens situation in all aspects in communist China.
