Johnson Quoted on 'pro-War Movement'
27 March 2003 Johnson Quoted on pro-War Movement
Cedric Johnson, assistant professor of political science, was quoted in the Pro-America leaflets disappearing on campuses from the March 22 Democrat and Chronicle. According to the article, hundreds of leaflets once posted around Rochester Institute of Technology are gone. RITs College Republicans complain that someone has been taking down their patriotic proclamations almost as fast as they go up. Their complaint is echoed by a scattering of campus conservative voices nationwide, who say they are being censored.
During the buildup to the war with Iraq, campuses have seen more anti-war sentiment than support the president rallies, said Johnson. Stifling of debate is far more an aberration than a norm at college, Johnson said. If anything, (discourse) is more rational and civil than in the mainstream and outside college campuses.
