A Day on Wall Street
29 December 2003 A Day on Wall Street
Twelve HWS students accompanied by Economics Professor Patrick McGuire and Brandi Ferrara, acting director of career counseling, were given a tour and overview of Wall Street on Monday, Dec. 22. The New York City event was designed to expose students to a variety of career options on Wall Street.
The day began with visiting the Trinity Church on Broadway and Wall Street. The Gothic Revival building, designed and constructed by Richard Upjohn and dedicated in 1846, is also the resting tomb site of its former pastor, Bishop Hobart, founder and namesake of Hobart College. Not only did the Trinity Church Parish, under Hobarts direction, contribute mightily to the City of New York by helping to start area hospitals and schools with gifts of money and land, but also gave many gifts to the Geneva community and to the College in its early years.
The students attending included Jonis Belu-John 04, Alexander Bogin 04, William Brame 06, Karl Brautigam 04, Nathaniel Breighner 04, Steven Camerota 04, Robert Drake 04, Nick Hoagland 07, Costas Liappas 04, Justin MacKlin 04, Tejvir Rathore 05 and Oscar Veras 04.
The students continued the day at the New York Stock Exchange, Standard & Poors corporate offices and at Merrill Lynchs bond trading center. The students learned about the specific skill sets required for a rewarding career in the financial service industry and were provided with a greater comprehension of the analytical skills, expertise, tools and data required of the Hobart and William Smith alums who offered time and effort to host the day.
Many thanks have been extended to the following Hobart and William Smith alumni and alumnae for helping make the day on Wall Street a great success: Sean McCooey 78, Leo O'Neill 62, Richard Carr 98, Eric Hedman 94, Wendy Freeman 92, Edward Liebowitz 01, Mark Levin 00 and Bob Boyle 82.
Major gifts officer and director of the Wheeler Society K.C. Cassell 82 also attended.
