Margaret A. Weitekamp, assistant professor of women's studies, has published an article in the Danish journal Kvinder, Kon, and Forskning (Women, Gender, and Research). The special issue on Gender in Times of War and Terrorism carries Weitekamp's article titled, 'Why Valentina and Not Our Gal?': Analyzing Women and Space in the Cold War. The article compares the paths of the U.S. and Soviet/Russian space programs from the early 1960s to the present in terms of how they dealt with gender and race.
