1 December 2003 Zhou Published on Womens Liberation in Communist China
Jinghao Zhou, assistant professor of Asian languages and cultures, had his article Keys to Womens Liberation in Communist China: An Historical Overview Communist China published in Journal of International Womens Studies, Vol 5, No. 1 (Nov. 2003). According to Zhou, the Communist Party of China has tried to convince the Chinese people and international society to believe that the party has fully liberated Chinese women and the leadership of the party is the key to Chinese womens liberation in the twenty-first century. Having examined the status of Chinese women from an historical perspective, Zhou has pointed out that womens problems in present-day China are not only serious but also structural. It is impossible for Chinese women to fully enjoy womens rights within the current communist system. The future of womens liberation largely depends on womens own efforts combined with the process of Chinas modernization and the urgent need for democratization. Jinghao Zhou joined the faculty in 2001.
