Founder of the White Ribbon Campaign of men to end violence against women will give a talk on this work from a global perspective.

October 16, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Michael Kaufman is a Canadian educator-activist and founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, an international movement of men pledged to end violence against women. He will give a talk on Global Perspectives on Men's Anti-Violence Work at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Demarest Hall, Room 14, on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. Immediately following the talk, the Gender Dialogue House, 645 South Main Street, will host a reception and discussion.

Kaufman is the author or editor of five books on gender issues, men and masculinity, violence, democracy and development studies (Cracking the Armor: Power, Pain, and the Lives of Men; Beyond Patriarchy: Essays by Men on Pleasure, Power, and Change; Theorizing Masculinities; Community Power and Grassroots Democracy; Jamaica Under Manley), and an award winning novel (The Possibility of Dreaming on a Night Without Stars). His work as educator-activist has taken him to Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Australia, and Asia, and he has been a frequent consultant to the United Nations and other agencies around the world on gender issues.
