Amina Wadud, of the philosophy and religious studies departments at Virginia Commonwealth University, will present Eternity in Transcendence Through Chaos and Change: Qur'an Gender and Justice at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, in the Geneva Room, sponsored by the Fisher Center for the Study of Women and Men. A roundtable discussion will take place at 8:45 a.m. in the Fisher Center on the morning following the lecture.
Wadud's presentation will include discussion around the issues of Islamic women and the Qur'an. Her knowledge will provide new and critical insight into the changing dynamics of our world since Sept. 11. Wadud, a scholar of Islamic studies, has investigated reproductive health issues and educational equality throughout the world. Her published works include Qur'an and Woman: Rereading the Sacred Text from a Woman's Perspective (1999) and Family in Islam: Or Gender Relations By Any Other Name from Women's Reproductive Health and Rights in Islam (2000). They are on reserve in the library.
