Gordon Van Hooft '38 had an editorial titled Creeping Federal Control of Education published in the August 11 Albany Times Union. Using examples, he says the federal government is grabbing a bigger share of control over schools, at state and local expense. He concludes, the roles of the federal, state and local governmental agencies and their proper share of the costs need to be re-evaluated to make the three-way partnership more equal, with the federal role brought under control. Perhaps the U.S. Constitution needs to be amended to legitimatize its expanded role in education.
