When I started at HWS I had a plan to major in psychology. I eventually earned my B.A. in the field, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. It wasn’t until the beginning of my junior year that I knew I wanted to enter the world of play-by-play commentary and the sports broadcasting industry.

I was on the Hobart soccer team for four years. Once during a preseason scrimmage, Joey Busuttil ’17 and I were out due to injuries and ended up on video duty. We decided to put on a makeshift broadcast of the game as a comedy skit. Hobart Head Soccer Coach Shawn Griffin listened to the tape and saw that I may be onto something. I didn’t think he was serious at first but he insisted that I had the voice, knowledge and poise to succeed in the business.

Currently, I'm the voice of Chicago Fire FC (MLS) on WGN and ESPN+. Prior to that, I did play-by-play commentary for the United Soccer League, National Women’s Soccer League and Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). I did this through an off-site location and satellite communication company, VISTA Worldlink, located in Dania Beach, Fla.

In my first year away from HWS, I traveled up and down the East Coast doing games for Stevens Institute of Technology, College of the Holy Cross and Princeton University. I then got a break and was named as the voice of the University of Vermont Women’s Basketball team on 620 AM WVMT. I worked two side jobs while working a 30+ game schedule to make rent. I then cold called the front office of the NWSL in January 2017 and I got in touch with the executive producer who referred me to VISTA Worldlink. I started with them in March 2017. Since then I've gotten some great opportunities with Major League Soccer covering Decision Day and the Post-season, calling games for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, in addition to making my first National TV appearance at 25 on ESPNU as Play-by-play for a Big 12 college soccer game. On November 16, 2019, I was the sideline reporter/Halftime Host for the USL Championship Final on ESPN2 .

Retired Hobart Director of Athletics Mike Hanna ’68, P’99 was integral in helping me get my start in the sports industry, linking me up with Hobart alum Jonas Schwartz ’97 who is a host at Sportsnet New York (SNY). I interned there during summer 2015 and eventually worked with them as a production assistant in summer 2016. WHWS and WEOS Station Manager Greg Cotterill was also huge in helping me get my “official” start and helping me set up a sports talk show with Busuttil and TJ Kaszubski ’16 called “Banter with Bus and Terens.”

My aspirations for the future are high. I want to be the voice of soccer in America, hopefully someday doing games for the United States Men’s National Team.
