All HWS students participate in some form of community service in Geneva and the surrounding region.

National recognition for HWS rolled in this fall, including a No. 1 ranking for service by Washington Monthly. In addition to the “Best for Happiness” ranking, Princeton Review’s Best 390 Colleges placed HWS among the top 25 colleges and universities in the country for career services, internships and alumni network.

#1 - Service

Hobart and William Smith ranks first in the nation for service according to Washington Monthly’s 2024 College Guide and Rankings. This marks the eighth consecutive year HWS has appeared in the top five service rankings.

#13 - Career Services

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education earned high marks in this year’s Princeton Review rankings. At 17th overall, HWS career services’ ranking was burnished by an exceptional alumni network (No. 13 in the nation) and a stellar guaranteed internship program (No. 14). HWS also appeared on the Princeton Review’s “Colleges That Create Futures” list of 50 schools that “empower students to discover practical applications for their talents and interests through experiences that complement their classes and coursework.”

Jumping 13 spots between 2023 and 2024, HWS appeared at No. 19 on Washington Monthly’s annual list of the best liberal arts institutions. The rankings reflect excellence across three, equally weighted categories, social mobility, research, and community and national service.
