Robin Finn '76
Journalist
Robin Finn '76 began her writing career as a student at HWS, where she cofounded a literary magazine, took as many literature and creative writing courses as she could, and worked as a student contributor to the Pulteney St. Survey.
During her post-graduate studies at NYU, Finn began freelance writing and found a home and a career in the world of professional journalism. She landed her first full-time gig-writing for the Southampton Press in the Hamptons-before she even graduated.
Finn would later serve as a sports writer for the Minneapolis Star as well as a staff writer for The Hartford Courant's Sunday magazine, before settling down at The New York Times, where she's been since 1985.
Finn began as a sports writer at the Times, building on her experience at the Star and the legacy of her father, who spent the majority of his career as a sports reporter, editor and columnist in Springfield, Mass.
Today, Finn covers real estate for the Times.
"I've always been fascinated by real estate. Writing about real estate in New York City and its environs is fabulously interesting because it's a city where people are truly obsessed by real estate," she says.
Finn earned her B.A. in English magna cum laude. As a William Smith student, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and her baccalaureate essay won distinction.
