Judy Davis ’88 has amassed years of experience practicing and enforcing the law, earning a reputation as a legal leader in the Rhode Island area.

After graduating from William Smith with a B.A. in political science, Davis returned to her hometown of East Providence, R.I., where she joined the city’s police department. While she served on the force, Davis earned a J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law and went on to join the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office, where she was a special attorney general in the Criminal Division.

During her eight years as a state prosecutor, she handled hundreds of criminal cases with charges including DWIs, assault, robbery, breaking and entering, sexual assault and murder. She also served as the deputy director of the Department’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, prosecuting fraud and patient abuse in Medicaid funded facilities.

She later worked in the financial services and title insurance industries, including for the MassMutual Financial Group as well as the Connecticut Attorneys Title Insurance Company, before opening the Law Office of Judy Davis LLC in 2014. In her private practice, Davis handles a wide range of legal issues for her clients, from estate planning and probate, to business formation and contracts, to criminal matters.

In 2018, Davis embarked on the journey of a lifetime, biking across the United States to create an Aquatics Endowment for the Boys and Girls Club of Providence, R.I., to help children learn to swim. During the 4,000-mile ride from Oregon to Rhode Island, which was profiled in the Providence Journalshe kept an online log detailing her travels. To date, Davis has raised more than $50,000 for the endowment.

As a student at HWS, Davis was a member of the lacrosse and soccer teams. She has served on various boards and committees, including the Rhode Island Juvenile Justice Commission. She is a past president of the Rhode Island Women’s Golf Association and current board member of the Rhode Island Golf Association.
