Dr. Sandra A. Rivera ’85

During Reunion 2025, Hobart and William Smith presented Dr. Sandra A. Rivera ’85 with the Board of Trustees Career Services Award. Sandra was active on campus as a member of the Dean’s Committee and the International Organization. Sandra also worked as a Dorm Monitor, Resident Advisor, Saga Worker and the campus Security Deskwatch.

After graduating from HWS, Sandra went on to receive a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico and her Ph.D. in International Economics from the University of Kentucky. Sandra currently serves as the Associate Director, Office of Economics of the U.S. International Trade Commission, where she leads a team that provides expert technical economic advice to the USTR and Congress on the impact of potential and current trade agreements.

Sandra has been a committed Career Services volunteer, returning to campus many times to mentor students as well as through programs in D.C. In 2021, Sandra hosted The Society of Women in Economics. She also served as a Professional in Residence through the Career Services Office. Sandra was a founding member of the Afro-Latino Alumni/ae Association and also served as the President of the William Smith Alumnae Association. She was presented an Alumnae Citation in 2010. Sandra has been involved with a number of Reunions and most recently, as part of the committee for her 40th reunion.
