HWS & TC3 Articulation Agreement

Recognizing the academic preparation and achievements of TC3 students, HWS and TC3 have entered into an articulation agreement that ensures a streamlined process for evaluating transfer credit and choosing a course of study at HWS.

TRANSFER AND GPA REQUIREMENTS
  • Students must have a minimum of a 2.70 cumulative grade point average for acceptance to Hobart and William Smith.
  • Individual courses in which the student earned a grade of C- (1.70) or higher will transfer for credit toward HWS graduation requirements.
  • Any student who transfers to HWS having completed their General Education requirements at TC3 will receive credit for our General Education requirements.
  • Any student who transfers to HWS having completed a General Education course at TC3 will receive credit for the equivalent General Education perspective at HWS.
  • If a student has finished an Associate degree at TC3, they will have completed their General Education requirements.
  • Students who complete an Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science degree at TC3 and who have followed the recommended guidelines as stated below may enter Hobart and William Smith at junior status. However, depending on intended major and previous program of study, it may not be possible to complete a bachelor’s degree in two years.

Programs of Study

Want to know how your courses will transfer into HWS and satisfy requirements? HWS has evaluated thousands of courses from other schools for equivalencies to our curriculum and you can view them all using Transferology. As you look at how your courses will fit into the HWS curriculum, know that additional courses yet to be evaluated may also transfer and meet program requirements. Ultimately, the courses that meet major and minor requirements at HWS are determined by academic departments and courses not yet evaluated may meet specific requirements upon discussion with their major or minor advisor.

Programs of Study

Students initially apply to Hobart and William Smith in general and not to specific programs or majors. HWS has over 70 programs, and transfer students will work with an HWS Dean and faculty advisor to determine a major. TC3 students in particular programs are likely to find the programs below match their interests.

TRANSFER GUIDELINES:

To earn a degree at Hobart and William Smith, a transfer student must pass minimally 16 courses at Hobart and William Smith with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Students must pass at least 28 courses (between TC3 and HWS) with a grade of C- or higher, and take at least 30 full-credit courses prior to graduation. A minor or a second major must be completed in addition to the primary HWS major. In addition, candidates for the bachelor’s degree must address each of Hobart and William Smith’s Four Key Perspectives:

  1. Scientific & Quantitative Reasoning
  2. Artistic & Creative Expression
  3. Global & Cultural Connections
  4. Ethical & Social Responsibility.

Upon enrollment, transfer students will meet with a HWS dean and a faculty advisor to decide which courses (TC3 and HWS courses) address these perspectives. These perspectives provide students with a broad foundation of knowledge, foster intellectual curiosity and analytical reasoning, and encourage exploration across multiple academic disciplines and approaches. They reflect the core principles of a liberal arts education: breadth of knowledge and the ability to engage that knowledge effectively. Critical thinking and communication are embedded throughout the curriculum, exposing students to analytical and creative modes of inquiry through First-Year Seminars, a writing-enriched curriculum, and the senior capstone experience. Transfer students, with guidance from deans and faculty advisors, will fulfill the First-Year Seminar component of these perspectives through approved alternative courses.
