Applying

How the Program works

  1. Apply during your junior year. HWS students in good academic standing from any program of study may apply to the program during their junior year.
  2. Receive preliminary admission. Students accepted to the program are conditionally admitted to a Johns Hopkins master's program while completing their undergraduate studies at HWS.
  3. Begin graduate coursework as a senior. During their senior year at HWS, students take two graduate courses through Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Courses may be taken online or in person at Johns Hopkins' campuses in Baltimore or Washington, D.C.
  4. Complete your HWS degree. Students must successfully complete their bachelor's degree requirements at HWS (achieving a minimum overall 3.25 GPA) and maintain good academic standing in their Johns Hopkins coursework (minimum 2.85 GPA).
  5. Finish your master's in one additional year. Because graduate coursework begins during the senior year, students can complete the remaining requirements for their master's degree in just two semesters following graduation from HWS.

Tuition, Deposits and FInancial Aid

Students admitted to the 4+1 pathway make an early commitment to the program by submitting two enrollment deposits to the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. The first $1,500 deposit is due by May 1 of the student's junior year at HWS, and the second $1,500 deposit is due by May 1 of the senior year.

Tuition for the master's degree is set at 70% of the standard full-time Carey Master of Science tuition rate for that academic year. The two deposits are applied toward this tuition, and students pay the remaining balance once they begin their graduate studies.

At the time they are admitted to the program, students receive a financial aid package from Johns Hopkins outlining any scholarship opportunities or other assistance for which they may be eligible, allowing families to review the full cost of attendance before making a final decision.
