The 5th Annual Somatic Conference & Performance Festival “Learning from the Living Body,July 5-8, 2017, will be a rich exchange of ideas and practices that celebrate embodied learning through diverse modalities and approaches. Dance artists and educators with somatic-based approaches to dance and movement education, choreography, creative work and/or performance will present movement sessions, lectures, panels, and performance s. The conference will feature keynote presentations by Alexandra Beller, Janice Meaden (co-founder and director of Integrated Movement Studies) and William Bill Evans. Somatic Dance—Learning from the Living Body is co-directed by William Bill Evans and Cynthia Williams.

The 19th Annual Bill Evans Teachers Institute (Northeast) “Interweaving Dance Techniques, Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies and Other Somatic Systems,” is directed by William Bill Evans and coordinated by Cynthia Williams. It features a special program of study for college dance majors and other pre-professionals, the Bill Evans Dancers Institute/BEDI, and special guest teacher Janice Meaden. Student enrolling in BEDI will receive scholarships to the Somatic Dance Conference and Performance Festival that precedes it.

The Bill Evans Teachers Institutes attract dance educators from throughout North America who are interested in teaching the whole person and guiding students toward positive transformation. Begun in 1999 by Evans, Kitty Daniels and Don Halquist, the BETI programs are dedicated to the integration of Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies, Applied Kinesiology and Multiple Intelligences Theory in dance technique.

BETI/BEDI 2017 faculty include William Bill Evans, BETI certified faculty, Janice Meaden and Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Dance Department faculty.

Registration for the Somatic Dance Conference and/or BETI/BEDI is not available online. Complete information and registration forms are available at www.billevansdance.org.

Registration fees are payable by check or money order only, mailed to:
Evans Dance Workshop, 2 Rosebank Drive, Providence, RI 02908.

Somatic Conference Scholarships are available for college students registered for the BETI/BEDI and for students of presenters and choreographers in the Somatic Dance Conference and Performance Festival.

Housing Information

Residences open on the afternoon of July 5. Residences close by 11 a.m. on July 16.

Each reservation is considered as single occupancy unless a roommate is requested.

Linen, pillow, blanket, standard size towel and wash cloth are included on each bed in Odells.

You may choose to bring a special pillow, blanket and/or larger bath towel with you. Please be sure to pack toiletries and a hair dryer for your stay.

Odells Village consists of a group of townhouses each with four single bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, kitchen and computer/internet access.

Check-in for Somatic Dance Conference will take place at the Gearan Center for Performing Arts on the afternoon of July 5. Check-in for BETI/BEDI will take place at the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts on the morning of July 9.
