Campaign Priorities
Endowment Growth
Over the last quarter century, the Colleges have experienced a transformational period of endowment growth. In 1980, our endowment was $8.3 million; today that number exceeds $163 million. Through careful stewardship and gifts to the endowment in support of the campaign, we aspire to conclude Campai gn for the Colleges with an endowment that exceeds $200 million. While we are experiencing good success against that target, we have important work ahead.
Of the campaign’s $160 million goal, $65 million is sought for endowment. Endowed funds provide scholarship assistance for deserving students and underwrite important internship, research and leadership opportunities that will prepare our students for their time after Hobart and William Smith. Campaign for the Colleges is seeking to secure endowment funds that will assist our many signature academic and co-curricular programs such as the Finger Lakes Institute, the Honors Program, and the summer research program. An endowed professorship is perhaps the most noteworthy reward that a faculty member can receive from his or her institution. A more robust endowment will enable the Colleges to advance their standing among the top liberal arts institutions in the nation.
