Harold Baer, Jr. '54

The Honorable Harold Baer, Jr., has lived a life in the law and public service. Elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Hobart College, he received his law degree from Yale University and progressed from assistant counsel to the New York State Commission on Governmental Operations to Assistant United States Attorney in Manhattan to chief of the Organized Crime Unit to executive director of the Police Civilian Review Board. Following 14 years of private law practice, he returned to public services as the first Deputy United States Attorney for Manhattan, became the youngest president of the New York County Lawyers Association, and presently sits as a New York State Supreme Court Justice. Baer has also given freely of his time to community organizations, including the League School for Severely Disturbed Children, Brotherhood in Action, Retarded Infants Services, and the Community Service Society.
