Dr. Willard M. Allen '26

Willard M. Allen is a doctor, scholar, scientist, and educator. Following his graduation from Hobart and election to Phi Beta Kappa, he earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester and, in 1935, received the first Eli Lilly Award in biochemistry for his work on the isolation of the hormone progesterone. He also participated in the Biological Standardization Commission of the League of Nations. As an instructor, assistant professor, and then, for 31 years, professor and chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine, he excelled in teaching and scholarship, including the publication of over 100 articles, and earned numerous awards and honors.
