Sarah Spears

Name: Sarah Spears
Hometown: Trenton, N.J.
Favorite Place to Eat in Geneva: Bagels and Cakes
Advice for First Years: Honestly, orientation weekend was very intimidating for me. I came from a high school with about 350 people, and I knew most of them. I had such a core group of best friends however, once I was at HWS I felt like no friendships here could live up to the ones back at home. I was completely wrong and I just had to push myself into meeting new people and just going up and saying hi. In the first weeks it might seem like everyone is already close, and its hard to make new friends but just realize everyone else is scared and everyone is open. You just have to push yourself to do it.

Favorite Place to Eat in Geneva: Marks
Advice for First Years: Don't get behind! We are fortunate to go to a school with small class sizes and where professors know your name.  Not going to lecture will get you behind and it is very hard to come back from being behind especially in a new learning environment.  Additionally, I would join at least one club that you didn't do in high school. I never did radio in high school but I joined it on a whim at HWS and it is the best thing I have ever done in college.
