The Office of Campus Safety maintains a safe, secure environment conducive to the educational, professional and personal growth of all members of the campus community.

The department meets these challenges by enforcing the rules and regulations set forth by Colleges authorities, maintaining order, keeping the peace, safeguarding lives and property, preventing and detecting crime and helping those in need.

The department also provides expertise and educational services in the areas of self-protection, crime prevention, sexual assault deterrence, personal security, workplace safety and environmental health.

HWS Campus safety officers appreciate the need to work closely and effectively with a culturally and socially diverse population and treat everyone with courtesy, respect, compassion and professionalism.

Living Safely describes Hobart and William Smith policies and procedures in the areas of crime reporting and prevention. The publication also contains campus crime statistics data and suggests some behaviors and precautions that are effective in helping individuals protect themselves and their property. This report is provided in compliance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, its subsequent 1998 amendments, which renamed it the Jeanne Clery Act, and in accordance with Article 129-A of the NYS Education Law.
