The Office of Admissions has several positions open throughout the academic year, including:

  • Tour Guides
  • Interviewers
  • Callers
  • General Student Workers
  • Event Staff
  • Day/Overnight Hosts

Depending on the position, responsibilities may include marketing Hobart and William Smith Colleges by communication through email, phone, social media and traditional mailings; touring prospective students and families around campus, answering questions and helping with requests; providing students with information and assistance regarding admissions applications procedures and timelines and establishing a continuum of personalized communication with prospective candidates; assisting with outreach to prospective students; participating in on-campus admissions events; assisting staff with regional and functional duties as requested; other duties as assigned.

  • Have a strong customer service orientation: positive, helpful and resourceful
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural and economic circumstances of students
  • Demonstrate a firm knowledge of the Colleges' educational philosophy and mission
  • Be highly reliable (at work on-time or call in advance)
  • Be flexible and adaptable
  • Be able to work independently (minimal on-site supervision)
  • Be familiar with HWS camnpus, programs, services, departments, etc.



Step 1:

Students interested in any school year positions in Admissions should first submit the Office of Admissions Student Worker Applicant Information Sheet using our application service Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/39652 . Once the Applicant Information sheet is submitted, please come to the Informational Interviews held on Wednesdays starting August 23rd at 12:15 in the Admissions Office. Pre-Registration is required. Please email mccormack@hws.edu to register. Interviews are ongoing.

Step 2:

Students must be authorized to work any job on campus by completing the Form I-9 and tax withholding forms. Please contact Human Resources at ext. 3312 or by email jhughes@hws.edu to ensure that your forms are complete.
