Associate Director, Career Counseling
Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education

SUMMARY:

An integral part of the Salisbury Center, this position assists in providing career services to students, alumni and alumnae. Provides career counseling and professional development assistance to a diverse population of students through faculty contacts, workshops, in-class presentations, and individual appointments. Assists in the development and maintenance of career information resources: developing products and programs that meet the needs of the student population and employers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Counseling

  • Conduct individual career counseling appointments for students interested in business-related career fields
  • Conduct career assessments (Strong Interest Inventory and MBTI)
  • Manage caseload of students in Handshake; provide notes on meetings, label students with career interests, and provide case updates as needed
  • Provide resume, cover letter, networking and interview assistance

Finance Society

  • Coordinate annual group of sophomore students, including recruitment, applications, acceptances, etc.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings twice a month to provide professional development related programming for sophomores interested in finance careers
  • Work with Employer Development in terms of alum speakers, Pillars of Wall Street, and Finance Career Treks

Workshops, Seminars and Events

  • Conduct seminars and special presentations; some evenings and weekends required
  • Assist with department activities and projects, including Multicultural Networking & Career Conference and William Smith @ Work events
  • Attend Career Treks with the employer developer and faculty member(s), leading groups of 25 students in Boston and NYC
  • Provide support for the Salisbury Diversity Fellows program; an initiative designed to support sophomore students with their career development
  • Assist with collaborative programs in partnership with the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Residential Education, Alumni/ae Relations, Athletics, and Intercultural Affairs
  • Assist with winter break job shadow/externship program

Administrative/Office Responsibilities

  • Ensure business career and programmatic updates are made to the Career Services website
  • Assist with First Destination data collection and reporting
  • Assist with one-year and five-year out data collection
  • Other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree or equivalent preferred, plus 3-5 years of work-related experience in career services, advising, or counseling. Experience in liberals arts setting highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal, communications, listening and organizational skills are required. Computer skills essential. The successful candidate has a demonstrated respect for diversity and inclusion, problem solving, detail orientation, and excellent follow through.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
