Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Many of you may have heard that student Cristiano Zeledon ’25 was injured in a missile strike that hit a pizza restaurant in Kramatorsk, Ukraine last week. I have heard from Cris and his family who report that his doctors are cautiously optimistic that he will be well enough to return to the United States soon to continue his recovery.

As his adviser, I know Cris well and am very fond of him. Cris served in the U.S. Marine Corps before coming to Hobart and since arriving here has taken on a number of leadership roles and been recognized by his fellow students through election to both the Chimera and Orange Key honor societies. Some of you know him as a thoughtful student in your courses and others as a fellow member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity or the rugby club. All of you who know him know that Cris is deserving of our well wishes as he recuperates. More details about the incident as well as information about his progress can be found in a recent news article.

If you need support, know that you can contact the Office of Campus Life, your dean’s office, the Office of Spiritual Engagement, and other resources on-campus. Students can also contact our 24/7 crisis counseling option at (315) 781-3388.

If you wish to send Cris a handwritten card or note, the Hobart Dean’s Office will collect and forward them to him. If you prefer to communicate electronically, please click here to offer wishes and we will compile messages and send to him.

In the meanwhile, I hope everyone will join in fervently hoping for Cris’ full and speedy recovery.

Sincerely,

Scott Brophy
Dean of Hobart College and Professor of Philosophy
