Frequently Asked Questions about the HWS Alumni/ae App powered by EverTrue.

Who can use the HWS Alumni and Alumnae App?

The app is limited to use by confirmed alumni and alumnae of Hobart and William Smith and the campus community. Information is secure and protected, and only the Hobart and William Smith community may access it.

Which devices support the app?

The HWS Alumni and Alumnae Mobile App is currently available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. For iOS, we support iOS 6 and iOS 7 operating systems. For Android we support devices running version 2.3.3 of the Android operating system or later. Click here to download the app.

How do I get EverTrue on my mobile device?

Search for “EverTrue” in the Apple App Store or in Google Play. Once you have downloaded the EverTrue App and opened it, you will be prompted to search for your community. Search for “Hobart and William Smith Colleges” and begin to log in.

How do I log in once I’ve downloaded EverTrue and selected the "Hobart and William Smith Colleges" community?

You will need to enter your first name, last name, and the email address you have on file with HWS.

If the email address matches what we have on file, you’ll receive an authentication message in your email inbox. Be sure to open the email you receive on the mobile device you used to download the EverTrue App. Click the “Verify” link from this email which will redirect you back into the app with full access.

If your email address is not accepted, please contact alumnihouse@hws.edu to reconcile your email address. If your email is recognized but you do not receive an email in your In Box, please check your spam/junk folder.

What if I do not receive a confirmation email?

If you do not receive a confirmation email, it may mean that we do not have an email address on file for you, or we have a different one. If this is the case, please contact alumnihouse@hws.edu to verify the correct email address we have on file. If your email is recognized but you do not receive an email in your In Box, please check your spam/junk folder.

What personal information will be available for alumni and alumnae to see?

Unless you indicate otherwise, your contact information will appear as it would in our online alumni and alumnae directory, including name, street, city, state, country, phone number, email address, education, and place of employment. If you choose to modify visibility of your personal information, please fill out the HWS Alumni and Alumnae App Opt-Out Form to make the request. Please note that it may take up to 72 hours for changes to appear. Please contact Alumni House at alumnihouse@hws.edu or 315-781-3530 with questions.

How do I customize my privacy settings or update my contact information?

Unless you indicate otherwise, your contact information will appear as it would in our online alumni/ae directory, including name, street, city, state, country, phone number, email address, education, and place of employment.

If you have previously asked that your information remain private, it will not appear in the app.

If you wish, you may customize your settings so that particular information will not be viewable by other constituents. If you would like to hide information in your profile, go to My Profile and click on “Update this profile” at the bottom the screen. Then, type in any information you would like to remove and click "Send." Please note that it may take up to 72 hours for changes to appear.

You can also complete the Opt Out Form to request any changes.

How do I search for alumni nearby?

Click on the Nearby tab in the sidebar navigation. A map will appear with small HWS flags indicating alums in your area. Clicking on one of the flags will open that alumni and alumnae profile in the directory. You may also click the icon in the top right corner of the map to view a list of alumni nearby. To search for an alum in the map feature, click on the search icon on the bottom of the map.

Are you traveling and looking to visit HWS alums in other cities? You may also search for alumni and alumnae across the globe by entering any zip code, city, state or country, and the map feature will show you that location along with alums in that part of the world. You can also click the filter icon on the map page to narrow your results by name, company, school or class year.

When using the map, how do I know who is in the area and in my class?

Click the list button in the upper right-hand corner. This will generate a list of the alums in the area, sorted by year.

How do I search for other alumni and alumnae using the directory?

Select the Directory tab. Type the name of the person you are seeking in the search field of the directory. If you are unsure of the spelling, you may type a few letters in the name, click "Search" and the app will pull a list of possible matches. You also have the option to search by class year, college and location. Deceased classmates are not displayed.

Can I search for alums by class year?

Yes, to search by class year, or to view an entire class, type the class year in the search box. Deceased classmates are not displayed.

How do I connect using my LinkedIn and/or Facebook account?

The app allows you to connect and network with other alums using LinkedIn. You can also connect using your Facebook account. When you first log in to the app, you will be asked if you would like to connect via LinkedIn and/or Facebook. You may choose one or both, or neither.

Once you are in the app, you can view information that alumni and alumnae have included in their LinkedIn and Facebook profiles along with the number of connections you have in common. Anything marked as private in Facebook or LinkedIn remains private. If you are not connected to an alum, you will not see his/her private information or feed, nor will he/she be able to view yours. If you opt not to immediately connect your LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, you may do so at any time by going to Settings and clicking on Manage Accounts. Likewise, you may disconnect those settings at any time.

Is the location information real-time?

No. The location information is based on home and employment address information in the Alumni and Alumnae Directory.

How can I see events in my area?

In the sidebar navigation, click the Events icon. The Alumni and Alumnae Event calendar is the default.

Options for opting out of the mobile app

If you would like to edit what information others see about you please use the “Update this profile” button on the application. You can also fill out the Alumni and Alumnae App Opt-Out Form or email alumnihouse@hws.edu with any directory requests or edits.

Available visibility options are:

  • Hide your home address
  • Hide your work address
  • Hide your phone number
  • Hide your email address
  • Hide your job title and place of employment
  • Hide all your information
