William Smith College juniors Katie Drinkwater and Kathleen Kennedy were recently named Scholar Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). It's the second year in a row Drinkwater and Kennedy received the honor.
To garner individual honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner and have a grade point average of 3.5 for the past academic year. Both Drinkwater and Kennedy also earned spots on the Liberty League All-Academic team last spring.
Drinkwater and Kennedy paired up to post a 10-7 record in doubles action, including an 8-6 mark at the No. 3 spot. Drinkwater recorded a 3-1 singles mark in tournament play, and Kennedy went 1-1 in singles tournament action last season.
William Smith finished the 2012-13 season with a 12-7 overall record. The Herons will begin 2013-14, when they host the annual Mary Hosking Invitational on Sept. 7-8 beginning at 9 a.m.
