Geneva Music Festival Continues

Posted on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

The Geneva Music Festival begins its second week of performances in the Finger Lakes with a concert at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on June 21. The expansive program will be filled with lyrical harmonies and late romantic passion and include the Vaughan Williams Piano Quintet in C minor, Beethoven String Quartet, Op.18 and Dvorak Piano Quintet in A major.

Among the rising stars in the chamber music genre who will be performing are: Geoffrey Herd, violinist and festival director; Eliot Heaton, violinist; Zahari Metchkov, international pianist and recording artist; Gregory Robbins, Delphi Chamber orchestra conductor and bassist; and Eric Wong, Linden string quartet violinist.

The Geneva Music Festival was founded in 2011 by Herd to enhance the cultural community of the region by bringing acclaimed musicians to the Finger Lakes. The Festival's goal, according to its website, is "to entertain, inspire and nurture a lifelong appreciation for classical music throughout the community by engaging a wide range of audiences and providing opportunities for enrichment to people of all ages."

As an ensemble, the festival provides outreach to regional schools that includes interactive presentations and efforts to bolster music education. Since its inception, the festival has presented concerts in three different cities. This summer, in addition to Geneva the concerts have taken place in Auburn and Canandaigua.

The concert on Friday will take place at 8 p.m. in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

The final concert in the summer series will take place the following day, Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua, N.Y.

Admission is $12 for adults and free to all children under the age of 16.
