Time : 9:00 am.
Location : Hobart and William Smith Colleges

For a sixth year, the New Jersey SEEDS (Scholars, Educators, Excellence, Dedication and Success) program has returned to campus for a summer of academic enrichment and leadership development.

Over the next two weeks, high-achieving rising first year, sophomore and junior high school students from low-income backgrounds will explore higher education, preparing them for placement at the country's top colleges and universities. Many SEEDS students go on to enroll in some of the nation's best colleges and universities - including Hobart and William Smith.

While on campus, students in the SEEDS program have the chance to live at Hobart and William Smith students, meeting with members of faculty, eating in the Saga Dining Hall, and staying in residence halls.

The goal of the program has been to not only prepare promising students for life on a residential campus, but also expose them to the application process through workshops with members of the Office of Admissions and the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development.

SEEDS students also learn the intricacies of writing at a college level, and spend time each summer in reading, writing and comprehension courses. Through the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, the motivated youth will also get a first-hand glimpse at the power of service and the Colleges' unique role in the Geneva community. Additional elective courses will also be offered, providing a welcoming environment to explore academic and career aspirations in a personal and close environment.

The program has received a great deal of support from HWS faculty and alums alike. HWS Trustee J. Paul Hellstrom Jr. '64 has been an advocate for NJ SEEDS since its beginnings at the Colleges. Hellstrom was the driving force in bringing together SEEDS and HWS and has contributed to the program's continued success.
