On Wednesday, Nov. 7, join Assistant Professor of English Sarah Berry for a fireside chat at 5 p.m. in the Intercultural Affairs House.

Join Berry and students from her "Nineteenth Century Women Healers" class in a discussion of their joint research project on Dr. Sarah Loguen Fraser (1850-1933), the first African American to graduate from Syracuse University College of Medicine in 1876, one of the first African American women to earn a medical degree, and the first woman doctor in the Dominican Republic.

As part of the Colleges’ observance of the 100th Anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s death, Berry and her students will also establish connections between the legacy of Ms. Tubman and the work that African American women like Dr. Loguen were able to accomplish.
