Truthfully, during my first year at HWS, I had a pretty close-minded perspective. As a member of the football team, I dedicated my time and focus into athletics and academics, as our coaches held us to a high standard in both categories. Coming into my first year, I hadn’t experienced much adversity or times of discomfort throughout my life, but that quickly changed, as it does with many first-years entering a new phase of their life. After that year, I knew there was more to me than schoolwork, football and my friends.

The way HWS enables students to explore so many different interests and passions is what transformed me as a person throughout my four years. The ability to foster an environment that values citizenship, teamwork, ethics and cultural competence is what has carried with me the most as I write this. In my four years, I was able to join a fraternity, a leadership program (HWS Leads) and become an active student in the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education. I landed an internship at ABC-TV my junior year, an accomplishment I never expected. I got the internship due to my dedication to Career Services and networking with two alums who work for ABC. These opportunities gave me the chance to form into a well-rounded student and more importantly, a well-rounded person, which has led to friendships, experiences and a successful start to my career.

I currently work for DataCamp as an account executive of the corporate sales team. Based in the Empire State Building in NYC, I’m mainly responsible for providing B2B services to our corporate clients across the world. I help establish DataCamp as the go-to enterprise learning platform for data fluency for all types of organizations. I learned about DataCamp through our alum network, as a recent graduate was an account executive there at the time. DataCamp’s hyper-growth, start-up culture gives me the opportunity to have a large footprint in the company, which is unique at 24 years old. What I find most interesting about my role would be the wide range of organizations, people and personalities I find myself working with.

Prior to DataCamp, I worked for Thomson Reuters, where I worked in the legal department doing business development for a year. I accepted the job in April 2018 right before graduation and started two weeks after we walked across the stage. Only having two weeks of “vacation” between graduation and work was definitely frightening but it paid off, as I was able to have a leg up with experience and financial benefits. Similar to DataCamp, I was able to land the position at Thomson Reuters through an HWS alum and recent graduate who worked in the same department.

All in all, I’ve had two internships and two full-time jobs from sophomore year to now, and they’ve all transpired from our alum network. These ties have significantly benefited me in so many ways, not just career wise, but as a person. I’m hoping I’ll be able to return the favor to a student or recent graduate in the future.

As for my aspirations, I want to continue driving growth and business at DataCamp, as I believe our company’s future is bright and could become a monumental resource for all Fortune 500 companies undergoing digital transformation. I currently live with three of my best friends, all HWS 2018 grads, so I’d like to continue making memories with them and enjoying all of the diverse and spontaneous aspects NYC offers. One day, I’d like to perhaps get back to my media roots and work for an organization like ABC Television.
