Edward E. Rigney '31 Scholarship in Debate

The Debate Scholarship is awarded to first year applicants with significant competitive success or contribution in the areas of debate, Model U.N. or similar programs.  Applicants should also display critical thinking, analytical and/or rhetorical skills and a desire to compete on the HWS Debate Team. Demonstrated interest in Hobart and William Smith Colleges will also be considered in selecting Debate Scholars.

Students who wish to compete for a Debate Scholarship must meet the following requirements by November 15 if applying as an Early Decision Candidate or January 15 if applying as an Early Decision II or Regular Decision Candidate:

• Apply to Hobart and William Smith Colleges using the Common Application
• Submit the HWS Scholarship Application

Debate Scholarship Specifics

• $20,000 annual scholarship
• Recipients must meet satisfactory academic progress, uphold community standards and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA after the completion of two semesters at HWS.
• Debate Scholars will also be encouraged to participate on the Debate Team at HWS.
