HWS Gap Year Program

Service Photo

At the heart of Hobart and William Smith Colleges' mission is "community service." With that in mind, the Office of Admissions is always willing to discuss a "gap" semester or year with admitted students. A deferral will be considered for pre-approved domestic or international service projects.

Each year, up to ten "gap year" students will be considered for reimbursement for the cost of services conducted by The Center for Interim Programs. Interim is a well known organization specializing in the recommendation and monitoring of "gap year" organizations.

To help identify other service organizations, please note a list of organizations that students have utilized in the past. This is not a recommended list, but one that might help in the selection process.
